Consultant Physician and Cardiologist

Dr Jason Kaplan is a specialist adult cardiologist and physician. He has sub-specialty interests in Cardiac Imaging, Preventative Cardiology and Sports Cardiology.

Dr Kaplan studied Medicine at UNSW and graduated with Honours in 1999 then completed his Internal Medicine Training at St George and Prince of Wales hospitals and Adult Cardiology training at Orange and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals.

Prior to training in cardiology, Dr Kaplan completed additional advanced training in medical oncology and pharmacology. His training in these areas allows Dr Kaplan to adopt a more holistic approach to patient care, particularly those with multiple medical issues.

Dr Kaplan has completed additional training in cardiac imaging in Australia and has spent time at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA. He performs transoesophageal echocardiography, pharmacological stress (dobutamine) echocardiography and Contrast echocardiography.

He is an accredited specialistin Cardiac CT and personally evaluates all his patients' scans.

Dr Kaplan has had experience in imaging for minimally invasive cardiac procedures including supporting structural heart interventions and minimally invasive cardiac surgery . He also started NSW’s first lifestyle clinic for management of Atrial Fibrillation.

Dr Kaplan is also a proponent of Integrative Cardiology incorporating principles of cardiovascular, nutritional, functional and Mind – Body Medicine in the care of his patients.

Dr Kaplan also has a strong interest in Sports Cardiology – an emerging subspecialty within cardiology providing cardiac care to elite athletes and exercising individuals and has worked with the NSW Institute of Sport, Olympic athletes and has consulted to the National Rugby League and A League Football Competition. He is an Ambassador of the Blackmores running festival.

Dr Kaplan is currently a Senior clinical lecturer in Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Over the last 8 years, Dr Kaplan has lectured extensively to primary care physicians and is a sought after speaker in his areas of specialty.

In his spare time, Dr Kaplan loves to spend time with his wife and 3 children , is a keen tennis player and practices yoga.
