Event Monitor
Information
The portable ECG Event Monitor fits into the palm of your hand and can record your hearts rhythm for up to 30 seconds. It can be given to patients to use for up to 7 days.
This user-friendly cordless device is carried by the patient at all times so a recording can be made when symptoms occur whether at home or away. These recordings can then be shown for information to the doctor, who can examine it and use it for correct diagnosis. It may be requested if you are experiencing infrequent episodes of irregular heart rhythms, palpitations, dizziness or blackouts, or if you have previously had a 24-hour Holter Monitor without any symptoms.
This is a much simpler and less sophisticated recorder than a 24-hour Holter Monitor but allows us to measure the heart’s rhythm during very infrequent or asymptomatic events.
While carrying this monitor you can perform normal daily activities. You should complete a diary particularly noting if you have any of your symptoms (palpitations, dizziness etc). This test is risk and pain free.
Duration
The Event Monitor is collected from the rooms by the patient one morning and is returned approximately 7 days later.
When you feel the symptoms of a heart problem – transient cardiac events – reach for the Event Monitor and make a 30-second recording of your heart’s waveform, instantly and discretely.
